So, the long wait comes to an end finally. Amazon has “officially” released the latest Kindle firmware 5.1.0.

This update takes only 5 minutes to complete and is very easy to do. For those who are truly lazy to update, Amazon will release it over Wi-Fi in the next 2-3 weeks. But till then you can go to: Amazon 5.1.0 Update

It has the following features now enabled:

  • Landscape Mode : This is probably the most useful update and was being demanded a lot by Kindle Touch users. This enables Kindle users to read books in the landscape mode (wide form). I personally find reading normal books in the usual portrait mode better and more convenient, however this is specially useful for reading PDFs, Images, Graphics, Comics etc. Basically all formats which do not have auto-fit enabled. I have tried reading a PDF which was almost unreadable in Portrait mode but is very convenient to read in landscape mode. To change to Landscape mode, just press “Menu” when the book is open and there you can select the option “Landscape mode”.
  • Text-to-Speech: Kindle will now read the text of the ebook or the newspaper summaries aloud to you. I have never found the robotic voice good to hear so have always stayed away from all sorts of text readers (Who uses the PDF Text-To-Speech readers anyways?! :) )
  • Language support: Some more languages like German, Spanish, French, Italian. (Amazon, when will there be a Kindle Hindi??)

To summarise it, it is definately worth upgrading!

21 Apr 2012 In: General

Was recently looking for a Faber chimney dealer in Delhi for a friend who has to setup his modular kitchen. I visited a lot of places with him for the same looking for the best competitive rates in Delhi. I found 2-3 dealers which were very close but ultimately went with Faber Delhi. They are very professional and give the best prices.

Organise feed list in Opera

29 Aug 2011 In: General

I am a big fan of Opera browser. It can check my emails, it can subscribe me to feeds, it provides a place for taking notes, it can synchronize automatically on my different machines and different operating systems. Many of the above functionalities originated in Opera and now have been subsequently copied by other browsers. Coming back to the topic, organizing feeds! (Yes! It can be done!).
